Hidden Treuhand: A Threat to America's Economy and Future | | Review Date: August 12, 2009 | | Reviewer: G. Florence Scott, Seattle, WA USA | I recently purchased and read Hidden Treuhand: How Corporations and Individuals Hide Assets and Money, by Shelley A. Stark. This is a very important book; one that the wrongdoers will certainly not want you to know about and read.
Hidden Treuhand: How Corporations and Individuals Hide Assets and Money is an informative, excellently written, and profoundly disturbing book. The title does not do justice to the depth of information included in this explanation of the history and structure of off-shore secret banking laws and activities which have had a decidedly negative effect on the American public and the American economy. Every day there are more stories of fraud, theft, corruption, and missing money and/or assets in countless publications and websites.
Ms. Stark deftly alerts readers to what kinds of machinations are going on behind the scenes, particularly in regard to the troubled banking and investment arena and what may be happening to all that missing (read that as hemorrhaging) bailout money and TARP funds. She also shines some light into the murky alleys of fraud, theft and other financial crimes which seem to be more prevalent in recent times, and many Americans do not realize are having a distinctly negative impact on them.
The term Treuhand is often translated over to "Trust" for English speakers. Author, Shelley Stark, (Hidden Treuhand: How Corporations and Individuals Hide Assets and Money), says this is not entirely accurate. If you use your search engine and type in "treuhand," you will get a great number of pages of links to companies, many in the German language who offer Treuhands, (the open and visible kind).
Hidden Treuhands are a horse of a different color and may only be accessed in certain countries that have laws which allow them, or do not have laws prohibiting them, and all the invisibility and secrecy that goes with them. Ms. Stark discusses this very succinctly in her book. Her book is user friendly for average citizens and will make it possible to understand how the Hidden Treuhand, is used as a financial manipulation tool to accomplish many things, legal and illegal.
Due to growing problems with tax evasion and money laundering, and financing of drug cartels and terrorism, governments are beginning to try to investigate this arena. How would a financial instrument that has created problems with tax evasion, money laundering and with connections to drug, cartels, organized crime, and terrorists have anything to do with our banking crisis, bailouts and economic meltdown?
Hidden Treuhands are not only being used for notorious crime in arenas of violence and intrigue, but are also being accessed quietly by seemingly normal upper income citizens and corporations with seemingly bland missions. Some European countries have suffered great tax losses due to Hidden Treuhands, which that country's citizens have set up in neighboring countries who offer them. Ms. Stark's book explains how a person or corporation could access and use this secret financial tool.
This concern has now become publicly acknowledged in the United States as well. If individuals, families, or corporations can access Hidden Treuhands, they can not only evade paying taxes here in the U.S., but can also hide a great variety of things, such as money, property, and other assets, as well as hide people or beneficiaries, specific stock holders or consultants who are paid or are benefitting financially. Ms. Stark explains how this is done in her book. Recently vast numbers of Americans were discovered to have these accounts in certain European countries and were using them as illegal tax shelters. The use of a Hidden Treuhand is illegal in America.
I highly recommend this book as a "MUST READ" for all Americans who have any money in banks, in retirement pensions (including government pensions), in investments, 401 K's etc. Our money, our enconomic lives, and our futures are all at great risk. We might as well know how some of our money could, be and most likely is, being siphoned off in total secrecy. I am outraged to find out how easily large corporations and those with wealth and connections can take advantage of the rest of us. I hope with the exposure of these means of ripping off the American public, perhaps some laws may be changed and some of this stopped. |

This book is not much more than a list of conspiracy theories written by a person who lacks the knowledge of the international financial markets. There are many good questions that need to be asked and answered. This book fails to ask the real questions and answers with old conspiracy theories. |
